composition of the race

When switching from short distance (vitesse) to long distance (fond), Pieter Heylen had to search new blood. This he found with Frans Van De Laer and also with August Smolders in Alphen (NL). In 1979, he bought a 4-year old cock from Jos Conjaerts (Turnhout) which was coupled to a Van De Laer-hen, and this couple gave nothing then extra good pigeons during seven years. Later on he bought 4 cocks from Dusarduyn from Groede (NL) which together with the linee Van Bruaene from Lauwe and some cocks from Maurice Delbar from Ronse ended up reinforcing his loft sensitively.

By crossing all these pigeons, Pieter obtained the fond-pigeon like he wanted it to be, namely light, gently and heavely plucked, long muscles with short fore-arm and moderately of construction. In spite of that Pieter repeatedly said: "I know nothing about pigeons", he could very well assess a pigeon. Proof of this is that al the pigeons he got from other fanciers succeeded 100% on his loft.

As from 1999 some pigeons from Piet Kokx Poppel conjugated the breeding stock, one of which is the mother of the first national Orange.

As from 2001 up to 2004 also several pigeons from Piet Lazeroms from Zegge (NL) came to reinforce the loft. These pigeons come from following lines:
